Use the Information below to learn how to prepare for your treatment and how to maximize your experience after your procedure.
The informed consent form for each procedure also provides important information. Please be sure to read it before signing. Ask a Spa 35 team member to answer your questions before scheduling your procedure.

Kybella Fat Removal - Treatment Purpose
Kybella removes unwanted fat below the chin (submental fullness) with an FDA approved injectable solution called deoxycholic acid. Fat cells are permanently removed in the treated area. Kybella is a great solution for excess fat that does not diminish from exercise and a healthy diet.
At your first treatment visit, you will receive a series of injections in the submental area. At that time, and for several days following, you will have swelling and discomfort in the submental area. Kybella will cause the fat cells to diminish gradually over the course of the next month following your injections. Multiple Kybella treatments may be required to achieve and maintain your desired results.
Best results are seen in people who maintain a healthy diet and exercise habits. While Kybella removes unwanted fat cells in the treatment area, excessive caloric intake can result in fat storage in the remaining submental fat cells.
Kybella Fat Removal - Consent for Treatment
Informed consent documents are used to communicate information about a proposed cosmetic treatment along with disclosure of risks and alternative forms of treatment. Despite Kybella’s high levels of efficacy and safety, it is not free of side effects. As a patient you have the right to be informed about your treatment and its associated risks. This will assist you in making an informed decision of whether to proceed with or decline treatment. This disclosure should NOT be considered all-inclusive in defining risks you may encounter and other possible methods of care. Spa 35 may provide you with additional or different information based on all the facts in your particular case and the current state of medical knowledge.
Kybella Fat Removal - Risks and Treatment Experience
There are both risks, and complications associated with Kybella. Although most patients do not experience these complications, you should understand the risks and potential complications.
Potential risks and experiences include, but are not limited to:
Bruising, redness, swelling. Pain at the injection site, tenderness and discomfort usually occur. These side effects are usually moderate and typically last a few days but can last up to a few months. Some people experience significant swelling for the first few days after their Kybella injections. In rare cases, bruising can last several months and even be permanent.
Numbness- The injected area may feel numb after treatment. This sensation can persist for 4 to 6 weeks after your Kybella injections.
Induration- A hardening of the skin in the submental area can occur. This is the result of increased inflammation and can occur within the first few days after treatment.
Marginal Mandibular nerve injury- Kybella injections can temporarily damage the mandibular nerve resulting in an asymmetric smile or facial muscle weakness. This typically resolves in 2 to 12 months after injections.
Dysphagia- Difficulty swallowing can manifest after your Kybella injections as inflammation is triggered in the treatment site.
Bleeding- Bleeding at injection sites can occur.
Skin ulceration/tissue necrosis- Kybella injections can damage superficial skin tissue.
Hyperpigmentation- Darkening of the skin can occur at injection sites.
Alopecia at the site of the injection- Kybella injections can cause small patches of alopecia (hair loss) in the treatment area.
Allergic Reaction. In rare cases, there may be an allergic reaction to Kybella including any analgesic agents (Lidocaine or similar numbing agents). The allergic reaction may lead to a severe reaction (anaphylactic shock) that requires emergency medical help.
Scarring- There is a risk of scarring from any needle activity.
Infections- Although infection following Kybella injections are unusual, bacterial, fungal, and viral infections can occur. Should any type of skin infection occur, additional treatment including antibiotics may be necessary.
Headache – You may experience headaches after Kybella injections.
No results or unsatisfactory results – There is a risk that Kybella will not create your desired cosmetic outcome.
Numbing agent reactions- Your skin will be numbed using an analgesic agent(s). Analgesics typically include but are not limited to benzocaine, lidocaine and tetracaine (BLT). BLT is a central nervous system depressant and has risks including, but not limited to: numbness, tingling, vertigo, restlessness, seizures, tremors, convulsions, tachycardia, and even death
Most side effects occur shortly after injection and go away within two weeks. In some rare cases, side effects may emerge weeks, months, or years later.
Kybella Fat Removal - Pre Treatment Instructions
It is prudent to follow some simple guidelines before your treatment. These guidelines can reduce possible side effects associated with the procedure and make all the difference between a fair result and a great result.
Over the Counter Medications- Avoid aspirin, Motrin and Ibuprofen (Advil) for one week prior to your treatment to decrease bruising. Inform your Spa35 provider if you are taking blood thinners or regularly taking aspirin or Ibuprofen. Do no stop prescribed medications without your doctor’s consent.
Supplements- Avoid fish oil, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A & Vitamin E one week before treatment to decrease bruising.
Avoid- Avoid alcohol & caffeine for three days prior to treatment. These items may contribute to increased bruising, swelling and irritation.
Arnica (SinEcch or Arnica Montana) - You may choose to take Arnica Montana oral supplement to decrease your bruising after Kybella injections. The SinEcch brand is taken immediately after treatment and can be purchased at Spa35. Arnica Montana may be purchased atWholefoods or Boise Co-Op (use as directed on package.)
Ice Packs- Store ice packs in your freezer for use after you get home from your treatment. Apply ice no more than 10-15 minutes every hour.
Dental visits and antibiotics- No dental visits or antibiotic use for two weeks before or after getting Kybella.
Special Events- Schedule your treatment at least four weeks prior to a special event (i.e., wedding, vacation, speaking engagement) to allow time for the healing process.
Photographs- Take at home photos to monitor your submental fat improvement, particularly side profile photos.
Kybella Fat Removal - Treatment Day Instructions
Clothing- Wear comfortable clothing to allow your provider to access your chin and neck for Kybella injections.
Nourishment- The treatment involves multiple injections. Eating a small meal and drinking plenty of water before your treatment may increase your tolerance of the injections.
SinEcch- If you choose to purchase SinEcch to decrease bruising, follow the SinEcch package instructions on the day of your injections and the hours after your treatment.
Exercise- Avoid heavy exercise on the day of your treatment.
Social events– You may experience significant swelling and moderate discomfort following your treatment. Most people avoid social events after their Kybella treatment.
Kybella Fat Removal - Post Treatment Instruction
Treatment area- Expect inflammation, tenderness and discomfort in the treatment area. Bruising and numbness can also be expected. Do not massage the treatment area. You may want to cover the area with a scarf or other cosmetic cover up in the first few days following your Kybella injections.
Ice- Ice packs may be used to the treated area during the first 12 hours- ice for 15 minutes on every hour. Wrap ice pack in cloth before application to your skin.
Avoid- Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days after treatment. These items may increase bleeding and bruising.
Notify Spa 35- If you experience bleeding, pain, dusky discoloration, difficulty swallowing or smiling, or fever occurs call Spa35 right away. For life threatening symptoms call 911 immediately.
Kybella Fat Removal - Treatment schedule
Kybella is recommended as a series of two or three injection sessions spaced at least eight weeks apart. During the initial treatment you will typically be injected with two vials of Kybella. The dosage during subsequent treatment sessions can vary depending upon your response to previous treatments and your desired cosmetic outcome.
Kybella Fat Removal - Alternative Treatments
Having no treatment is an option. Alternative treatments include: CoolSculpting (mini), laser assisted lipo-suction, traditional lipo-suction and cosmetic surgery (neck lift or other platysmoplasty procedures).
Kybella Fat Removal - Synergistic Treatments
CoolSculpting, Dermal Fillers and/or Neurotoxin (Botox or Dysport), given along with or after your Kybella treatment, may create a more enhanced outcome to your desired cosmetic results.
Kybella Fat Removal - Acknowledgement
I have read and understand the Informed Consent documentation and have been informed about what I must do and "not do" before, during and after my treatment. I agree to follow the pre and post care instructions carefully. I understand that compliance with recommended pre and post procedure guidelines are crucial for healing, prevention of scarring, and other side effects and complications.
I completed an accurate medical history document. If there are any issues that are not covered by the medical history form which I think are relevant to my treatment, I will inform Spa 35 prior to treatment. I will also notify Spa 35 of any changes in my health or medical care as they occur during my treatment program.
I confirm that I am not pregnant or breastfeeding at this time.
Photographs: I give permission for my photographs to be used to help document my treatment course. Complete confidentiality will be maintained.
No guarantee, warranty, or assurance has been made to me as to the results that may achieved. I am aware that follow-up treatments may be necessary for desired results. Clinical results will vary per patient. I agree to adhere to all safety precautions and regulations during the treatment. Some people are unable to complete the treatment due to discomfort. No refunds will be given for treatments received.
I recognize that during the course of this treatment, other medical procedures or anesthesia, unforeseen conditions may necessitate different procedures than those above. I therefore authorize Spa 35 providers to perform such other procedures that are in the exercise of his or her professional judgment necessary and desirable. The authority granted under this paragraph shall include all conditions that require treatment and are not known to the provider at the time the procedure has begun.
I understand and agree that all services rendered to me are charged directly to me and that I am personally responsible for payment.
The nature and purpose of the treatment have been explained to me. I have read and understand this agreement. All of my questions have been answered to my satisfaction and I consent to the terms of this agreement. Alternative methods of treatment and their risks and benefits have been explained to me and I understand that I have the right to refuse treatment.
If I experience any major or life-threatening symptoms, I will call 911 immediately. For non-emergency questions I will call Spa 35 at 208-367-0700, (for after-hours concerns select option #4).
I release Spa 35, medical staff, and specific technicians from liability associated with this procedure. I certify that I am a competent adult of at least 18 years of age. This Consent Form is freely and voluntarily executed and shall be binding upon my spouse, relatives, legal representatives, heirs, administrators, successors, and assigns.
