Kybella Fat Removal
Excess Fat Under the Chin
Kybella® Overview
Kybella® is composed of a specially designed chemical that destroys fat cells. The FDA has approved Kybella for the treatment of fat below the chin, medically known as submental fat, and commonly referred to as a double chin. The treatment involves the injection of a FDA approved chemical, deoxycholic acid, into the fatty tissue under the chin. This substance is chemically identical to material produced by the human body to break down fats. The chemical breaks apart the cell membrane of fat cells, destroying them, resulting in a permanent removal of those fat cells.
Kybella® Treatments
Kybella® is delivered via a series of injections into the fatty area below the chin. The number of injections can vary, but generally are between twenty and fifty in number. The treatment area can be numbed with ice or a topical analgesic, but most people tolerate the injections with minimal discomfort. Injections are performed with a small needle, very similar to the needle used for Botox® injections or insulin injections. A minimum of two injection sessions is almost always required. Total injection sessions are usually four, but can be as many as six. The number of injection sessions depends upon a variety of factors, including the amount of fat to be dissolved, the goals of the patient, individual response to the injections and budget.
Good Candidates for Kybella® Treatments
Since Kybella® is composed of a number of injections into the skin, good candidates for Kybella® are in general good health and have a normal wound healing response. People with compromised skin integrity or healing response, such as some diabetics or people with autoimmune disease, may not be candidates for Kybella®. Women who are pregnant or breast feeding are not candidates for Kybella®. People with prominent platysmal bands may not like the results of removing the fat in front of these anatomical structures. Kybella can increase the prominence of the platysmal bands. The wound healing response during Kybella® will retract skin to balance the loss of volume by removing fat. But Kybella® is not a treatment for loose skin (e.g., gobbler). Kybella® is not the optimal solution for those with large amounts of fat under the chin. Best results are achieved in those with mild to moderate submental fat. Liposuction or laser assisted liposuction may be an alternative for those patients with severe to extreme submental fat. Dr. Mike Bailey, a cosmetic surgeon located in The Cosmetic and Wellness Center with Spa 35, performs liposuction and we can coordinate a consultation with his office for the appropriate patients.
Kybella® Post Treatment Responses
After a treatment the injection site can become inflamed, swollen and tender. The first twenty-four hours after the treatment some patients are uncomfortable. Oral over the counter pain medication helps relieve the discomfort. Over time the discomfort subsides though the area remains swollen, sometimes up to three weeks after the treatment. Bruising can occur in or near the injection sites and the area can be red. Numbness can be experienced at the injection site. Some patients report the dissolved fat cells feel like a foreign substance under the chin that slowly decreases in size as it is expelled from the body.
Men And Women Can Be Treated With Kybella®
Kybella® has been studied in both women and men as part of its FDA approval process. It is approved and effective in both men and women

Chi Bella is a medicine that is injected
0:03
under the chin this is called the submental area to dissolve fat
0:06
so it's a treatment for people with double chins but not a lot of skin
0:10
excess
0:10
so for patients that have a turkey gobbler our skin access
0:13
that this is not your treatment in the past we only had facelift for
0:18
liposuction but now again
0:20
this FDA-approved first-ever minimally invasive
0:24
non-surgical treatment for double chin I
0:27
so how does a drug work it injected just like Bo tox injections
0:31
and what it does is it dissolves the fat cells in your body then
0:35
absorbs them who is a candidate for this artie said
0:38
patients with isolated fat deposits notta lotta skin
0:42
so patients come in we put a little marking device on
0:46
we do a little series a injections it takes about five minutes
0:50
we usually repeat these injections somewhere between four and eight weeks
0:55
and most people respond from a series of to
0:58
24 injection sessions I after
1:02
here injections there are some swelling theirs and discomfort
1:05
a little bit numbness up that people that
1:08
that I've injected report the discomfort to be a level four out of 10 so it's not
1:12
severe
1:13
but it does take a couple days %uh to recover so
1:16
this is a really exciting to have this new treatment
1:20
and we're going to inject some guy Bella in a second and if you have any
1:24
questions you can contact me at love that pace dot com
1:27
this is a little transfer tattoo in its bid
1:30
very much like a children's tad too
1:34
and what is gonna do
1:37
is its gonna transfer these little dots to show us not only where
1:43
to put the Chi Bella but it helps us calculate how much we're using
1:47
and will take that off
1:50
and their is our come calculated dose ok I Bella
1:54
so we've done our tattoo the dots on the periphery there there's no fat here so
1:59
we're not counting them there's no fat there
2:01
there's no fat the mandibular border so we really have
2:04
22 meaningful dots in those are the dots there
2:08
a encircling are fat deposit so what you do is you take that
2:12
22 any ballpark times to that 44
2:15
if you move the decimal point over one that is
2:18
for point for millimeters up by Bella
2:22
and that's just a tad over two vials each file
2:25
is 2ml now on a small person they may only need
2:29
I 2 ml which is one by I'll on a larger person name
2:33
may use up to a 6ml which would be
2:37
three vials or or a demo which would be four vials
2:40
in my experience here we're usually using about three vials
2:44
per patient so 22 docs multiply times to its forty-four move the decimal point
2:50
over one
2:51
thats 4.4 and that's how many milliliters of guy Bella will use on
2:55
this patient quick so we we've marked are critical and March we want to stay
2:59
away from the marginal mandibular nerve the
3:01
some individual answer by Roy gland and now we're going to do our actual
3:06
injection this is a half
3:07
inch needle and what we're going to do is put in the land
3:10
about halfway ever gonna check point
3:13
to ml in each area now on the sides here
3:18
I'm gonna feather a little bit so I'll probably put a little bit less
3:21
but in the center for sure and
3:25
you want to inject perpendicular to the skin I
3:28
for the sake at the video so you can see I'm gonna angle
3:32
the syringe a little bit but I'm putting .2 ml
3:35
in again it's a half inch
3:39
this is a pretty to gauge needle
3:46
most of our situation here is in the center so we're
3:50
we're gonna keep this probably 24 CC's so
3:53
for treatment in this is just a this is a bow talk set up
3:56
this is just a 1ml sir engine at 32 gauge
4:00
New York and to get to the this is for the pre
4:03
put is more fat we're not trying to get past but is meh we're not trying to get
4:07
to the deep
4:08
that and so we're gonna start in the areas that we know
4:12
we want to hit and we're gonna put that Neil in about half way
4:16
I'm gonna give .2 ml
4:19
and we're going to inject
4:23
just through the dot
4:26
a bit not are not through the dot just to the side to the dot
4:30
in really we are we just got two hours
4:35
a after archived our injections
4:38
and lets that turned sideways this way a little bit
4:41
so we have some swelling you can see how this
4:44
kinda wobbles a little bit again wall quite as much and I expect more that
4:48
tonight
4:48
Best Buy ago last three or four days I
4:51
I would imagine that this is going to be a little bit sore I can I really got me
4:55
into injected her in the video on this is 24 hours later
4:58
she has a couple World Cup bruises there before five little bruise marks and you
5:03
can see this
5:04
mobile tissue here and that's the swelling and that'll last for a couple
5:08
days so basically
5:09
I mean she's going to work today so most people are we do find that there was
5:13
some patients might swell more
5:15
now what we did is we had a compression dressing on her
5:19
last night just a little ace bandage tight about compression dressing and she
5:23
feels that this helped a and made her feel better so tell us about your
5:27
evening
5:27
and it was pretty easy I'm just kinda hung out and relax a little bit
5:33
on didn't have much discomfort I was there four out of 10 to 10
5:37
am I took one ibuprofen the great and you will not miss
5:41
yeah little-known fair and you think you could cover that bruising with makeup if
5:45
you absolutely
