Boise is the capital city of Idaho, and downtown Boise has traditionally been home to state government offices (including the state capital) and locally owned restaurants and shops. But that is changing. The business community and travel industries have discovered downtown Boise and it has seen a huge increase in private sector companies, hotels and universities establishing themselves as part of the downtown Boise community. Companies with a large downtown presence include; Simplot, Clearwater Analytics, and CradlePoint. Boise State University has moved its Computer Science center into downtown Boise to foster synergy between the rapidly growing technology companies and the education pipeline they depend upon . The Hyatt Place, Residence Inn and The Inn At 500 Capital are all hotels under construction in the downtown area scheduled for opening in the near future. The Pioneer Crossing development has begun at 11th street and Myrtle street. This new project will include a hotel, parking structure, retail and office space. It is scheduled for completion in 2018.
Boise is developing a reputation as a great city for technology companies. The Idaho Technology Council has representatives from many of Idaho's most prominent technology companies and they are assisting Idaho develop an environment that fosters educational, funding and infrastructure that creates high wage technology jobs in Idaho.

JUMP - Jack's Urban Meeting Place - is located across from Spa 35 Med Spa at the intersection of 11th street and Myrtle street. The mission for JUMP is "Creating an environment for inspiring human potential". Improve
CCDC improves downtown infrastructure by repairing and widening sidewalks, and adding amenities like trees, benches and street lights. Through the ownership and maintenance of North 8th Street and the Grove Plaza as public spaces, CCDC further strengthens downtown Boise’s vitality and beauty.
Develop
The agency promotes development through assisting in public streetscapes, investing in infrastructure and utility updates, purchasing and redeveloping strategic downtown property and constructing and managing public parking garages to offset the need for private parking and preserve land for development.
Grow Economy
CCDC works to grow the downtown economy by improving public spaces and assisting development needed for business growth. It also does this by supporting specialized efforts such as the ownership and lease of the WaterCooler business incubator building located in the Linen District. The agency works hand-in-hand with local economic development agencies.

The Boise City Center Plaza is a current project of the CCDC that is reaching completion. The City Center Plaza includes a regional transportation center, Clearwater Analytics headquarter building, and the Boise State University Computer Science Department facilities.
Boise State University has located their Computer Science department in the Clearwater Analytics building in downtown Boise.
Computer Science students are in proximity to the Boise technology scene, fostering communication and collaboration among instructional staff and private sector companies.
Downtown is known for its Basque Block that includes a number of Basque restaurants, including Leku Ona and Bar Gernika. The Basque Block provides visitors the opportunity to learn about the long history and influence of Basque natives on the Treasure Valley.
